Why the paperback matters
We wrote about this recently — kids ages 5–8 learn better from print. They point at things. They flip back to compare. They sit next to you and ask questions the page can’t answer, which is exactly the point.
The Kindle edition has been out since May, and it did its job. But this book was always meant to be held. The illustrations need room. The pages need to be turned by a small hand that stops halfway because something caught their eye.
What’s inside
Living things, plants, and animals — explained simply, for kids who are just starting to notice that the world is full of things that are alive.
It begins with a question a child can actually ask: Sarah has a cat named Nina and a stuffed animal named Chuck. One of them is alive. The other isn’t. How do you know which is which?
From there the book walks through the six characteristics that separate a living thing from everything else — not as a list to memorize, but as a story to follow.
No tests. No worksheets. No vocabulary to drill. Just good questions and illustrations worth looking at twice.
